Rhodochrosite |

Rhodochrosite drive its pink color from manganese, gem-quality crystals do occure,and are cut for collectors, but the fine- grained, banded rock is more commonly used for decoration.

Occurrence |

Rhodochrosite occurs in veins associated with manganese, copper, silver, and lead deposits. Argentina has the oldest mines, and banded rhodochrosite from there is sometimes called "Inca rose". Today, the prime commercial sources arc in the USA.

Pyrope
comes from the Greek pyropos, meaning fiery. Swiss and South
African pyropes are lighter red than stones from Bohemia,
where pyrope jewellery has been made for over 500 years.
